Loveland Products Inc., a division of CPS, offers a complete line of high performance crop input products including seed treatment, plant performance, nutritionals, adjuvant and crop protection products. Loveland Products brings new, unique chemistries to the marketplace to provide innovative solutions to problems across the agricultural and professional non-crop industries.
Position Summary:
This manager is responsible for overseeing and managing lab tech personnel and daily laboratory operations in the agriculture nutrients industry. In addition to providing routine quality assurance support to manufacturing, this position has responsibilities to provide product formulation optimization and validation. This entails developing experimental protocols and managing trials, including working with Sales and Marketing teams on new product development.   This position may also assist in developing product usage recommendations and providing technical support to international businesses.
Key Tasks:
- Direct and oversee lab activities to ensure all regulations associated with EPA, OSHA, and other regulating bodies are met or exceeded.
- Recruits, retains and develops personnel to ensure on-going lab operational capability to generally recognized and accepted standards.
- Manage lab operations within agreed budgets.
- Evaluates new and alternative raw materials for functionality and stability.
- Guides process development activities, working closely with Manufacturing to deliver successful processes for production in the manufacturing environment.
- Constructs experimental studies intended to provide supporting data or to resolve technical issues.
- Assists in resolving technical issues and drives the completion of investigations that affect the technical scope, making recommendations for various options that would resolve the issue.
- Develops formulation requirements on new formulas; including creation of theoretical formulation, bench mix development, product description/formulation sheets, lab tests, stability testing/ monitoring, color verification, etc.
- Documents test results, specifications, and final formula procedures in a standard format for transfer from bench to pilot scale to commercial manufacturing runs.
- Conducts intellectual searches for technical information through a variety of resources.
- Manages special projects as needed and any other tasks assigned to support business continuity and growth.
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Chemistry, Agronomy, and Crop Science, preferred.
- Analytical professional with knowledge in fertilizer technology is also desired, but not required.
- Proven experience managing technical personnel in a lab environment.
- Strong analytical skills including use and application of statistics and data analysis.
- Excellent organization, communication and presentation skills, with team player focus.
Plant Information:
Located in Fairbury, NE, this plant has undergone over $15 million of upgrades and expansions in the last 3 years. We take pride in our facility and understand the need to keep it in excellent condition and working order, balancing the need for current production and increasing capacity while maintaining a strong safety culture.  The facility has a rail spur for efficient unloading of raw materials and loading of finished product.  It also has multiple loading docks for loading out finished product by truck.
This plant site manufactures, packages and distributes liquid fertilizers and micro-nutrient products. There are separate manufacturing facilities, bulk storage, packaging lines, warehouses, distribution docks and maintenance units. Our QC lab is new and has excellent analytical equipment.  The plant also has an off-site warehouse nearby that they are responsible for operating.
